In twenty-first century US society most people believe, rightly, that one should not be judged on their religion, race or creed. That is unless you are a non-believer. In the era of Obama many people bask in the self righteousness of a country who's first president was a slave owner and their 44th a black man. But we seem to not acknowledge that no political figure in the US could be elected president if he or she were a stated Atheist. The idea of it conjurers up the end times, were as it is written in the Bible, the anti-christ will be a charismatic embodiment of satan who wins over the favor of the masses and then comes to rule the world. The christian-right in this country do actually believe this literal and obviously insane interpretation of The Book of Revelations. That is why Obama will and must keep pretending that he is a Christian. He states that he believes Jesus Christ is the son of God. Although oddly he doesn't go to church every Sunday or actually even belong to a church anymore. His father was Muslim but did not raise him and his mother who did, was an intellectual and a product of the counter culture movement of the 60's. Mrs. Obama did not raise Barrack in any particular religion and her second marriage was to a Pakistani immigrant of Muslim background.
Mr. Obama does not fit the profile of a god fearing man, he is well educated and was not born into any religion. He is though smart enough to not come out and say that he is a non believer because with 25% of Republicans believing that he is the anti-christ he is a good enough politician to know that the number would double or triple if he had the "audacity" to say he is a moral atheist who is not the spon of satin. Mr. Obama could stand up and tell the American people the truth that he like 15% of Americans does not believe in a God. And that although it might be hard for people to imagine that one does not need to believe in a deity to be a good person.
